Situated about 40 kilometers from the city of Marrakech in Morocco, the beautiful lake of Lalla Takerkoust provides a perfect setting for leisure and is a popular destination for city-dwellers and tourists to get in touch with nature. Lalla Takerkoust is a man-made lake which was built between 1929 and 1935 for the primary purpose of providing the city of Marrakech Marrakech and the surrounding areas with electricity, as well as to irrigate the agricultural fields in the plain of Haouz.
The area around Lalla Takerkoust provides many lovely trails for walking, mountain biking and horse riding. There are a number of public and private beaches alongside the lake which are used for picnicking, relaxing, socializing, swimming and sunbathing. Water sport enthusiasts can rent jet skis or kayaks to explore the lake, and for less daring visitors, pedal boats are a pleasant way to enjoy the water. Fishing water skiing and wake-boarding are also available. Some exciting trails have been created around Lalla Takerkoust for the use of quad bikes, which is becoming a very popular activity.
