“The last creation of Kamal Laftimi is joining Le Café Des Epices for more culinary pleasures and an authentic modern and inspiring design twist for interior lovers, working around the theme of the rug souks. Enjoying an interesting menu and affordable prices, you can sit on several floors indoors & out. There is a big roof terrace with a splendid view over the buzzing spice square of the medina (to find opposite of Café Des Epices , ask the staff for the entrance, which is hidden in a side alley). You can have your glass of wine or beer here (yes!), food prices vary between 60 dirhams and 200 dirhams.”

This rooftop spot is just steps from the historical Jemaa el-Fna Square—but it couldn’t be more contemporary and cool. Co-owned by Brit Sebastian de Gzell, who collaborated with Serge Becker on Miss Lilly’s in New York City’s SoHo, it’s a multi-level restaurant dressed up in designs from local artisans but maintains a more minimalist look with tan cushions and black and white patterned placemats. The modern Moroccan cuisine features eclectic twists on classics such as a bastilla filled with vegetables and goat’s cheese (instead of pigeon) and calamari from Agadir in a cumin and anchovy-infused sauce with harissa. Cocktails like cucumber martinis or mojitos are on tap for international clientele. (via Saveur)
