Young Marco—real name Marco Sterk—has been one of Europe’s fastest rising house producers and DJs in the last year. Known for digging deep and pulling people on pan-genre journeys that touch on lo-fi deep house, weirdo techno, rare disco, jazz-fusion, Sterk was schooled by some of Amsterdam’s most reputable vinyl heads.
After moving to the Dutch capital when he was 18, Marco started working at the legendary Rush Hour record store, packing boxes and eventually moving up to their in-house designer. Since leaving design behind, he has become a consummate vinyl enthusiast and alongside his close friend and Redlight Records co-founder Tako Reyenga has become well-known for his impeccable taste in hard-to-find wax.
In 2014, Young Marco released his well-received debut record Biology on ESP Institute, and has also become a fixture on the likes of Dekmantel, Rush Hour and Permanent Vacation, supplementing his reputation as a selector with a formidable prowess in the studio.
Pushed to pin his sound down in a recent interview with Resident Advisor, Young Marco said: “I guess I’m really into emotional music and that can come in a lot of forms. It could be some ambient track, but it could also be a super heavy, jacking club track. It just has to have a heavy impact.”
